Emit a detailed deprecation warning that explains what to do instead.
Also add a unittest.

mutation. However, doing this via mutation is not a good way to do it,
we should be explicit.

Make the handling of bindgen inputs consistent with the inputs and outputs of
source_strings_to_files.
However, for the first source argument reject anything that cannot
possibly be an header file. This also fixes a mypy failure from the next
patch, since ExtractedObjects does not have a zero-argument get_outputs
method.

Contrary to most system method checks, zlib currently functions as a
whitelist of OSes. This isn't really needed however. The first special
case for OSes that provide zlib as part of the base OS is worth keeping.
However, the elif for windows is more than generic enough to allow any
other potential OSes to try. Just make it a simplie if/else instead.
This tries to link the system provided python, which is deprecated and
will result in an ambiguous error like "your binary is not an allowed
client of .../Library/Frameworks/python.framework/python.tbd for
architecture x86_64".
While the horizontal line and the other pictograms in mtest have an ASCII-only
version, the spinner does not. This causes mtest to fail with a
UnicodeEncodeError exception on non-Unicode locales.

If the LTO threads == 0 clang will default to the same argument we
manually pass, which meant we dropped support for admittedly ancient
versions of clang that didn't yet add that option.
Drop the extraneous argument, and add a specific error condition when
too old versions of clang are detected.

Without this patch, the name of the RunTarget is passed to the
install script; for the enclosed test, meson setup (incorrectly)
succeeds, but installation fails.

String formatting should validly assume that printing a list means
printing the list itself. Instead, something like this broke:
'one is: @0@ and two is: @1@'.format(['foo', 'bar'], ['baz'])
which would evaluate as:
'one is: foo and two is: bar'
or:
'the value of array option foobar is: @0@'.format(get_option('foobar'))
which should evaluate with '-Dfoobar=[]' as
'the value of array option foobar is: []'
But instead produced:
meson.build:7:0: ERROR: Format placeholder @0@ out of range.

It's supposed to emit an error message, but instead it did a traceback.
It used to be, if no install_dir was specified then it was simply not in
kwargs, but due to typed_kwargs it will now be there, but not have
viable contents, so the dict membership check got skipped.

Since 0.59.0 Meson downloads multiple wraps in parallel, so the
packagecache directory could be created by one then the 2nd would hit
error when calling os.mkdir() because it already exists.
We say:
> If version 4.2 or higher of the first is found, targets coverage-text,
> coverage-xml, coverage-sonarqube and coverage-html are generated.
But this is totally untrue. Make it true, by actually checking (and
not generating broken coverage commands when older versions of gcovr are
found).

The fix is to not use the tempdir for all tests, but only for tests
that check the mode.

install: false was only available since 0.50, so we should not warn
people who support older versions to use something they cannot.
Fortunately, we can do FeatureDeprecated for this -- and then it even
gets summarized. Unfortunately, it's not well used, and certainly isn't
here.
It turns out this could be missing in GResource*Target as well, due
mostly to the same problem, side effects of mutating a shared
dictionary; though it could also happen with a specific set of keywords
given and other omitted.

Unless parsing TAP output, there is no strict requirement for
"meson test" to process test output one line at a time; it simply
looks nicer to not print a partial line if it can be avoided.
However, in the case of extremely long lines StreamReader.readline
can fail with a ValueError. Use readuntil('\n') instead and
just process whatever pieces of the line it returns.

Some custom_target()s may want to receive "fat" archives, so making use
of thin static_library() archives conditional only on it not being
installed, and without the possibility of an override by the user, is
undesirable. In #9453 I propose adding a thin: kwarg defaulting to true,
but that's a new feature that can only land in 0.61.
The `mkenums` functions can have this unset if, and only if, the
c file only variant is called. Due to side effects if the header file is
generated then `install_dir` is ensured to be set for the c file. I have
removed this side effect so that our tests actually cover this case.

We could have an OptionOverrideProxy of an OptionOverrideProxy,
recursively. This fix is a minimal subset of the refactoring I did in
https://github.com/mesonbuild/meson/pull/9394. Instead of faking
UserOption we can just do a shallow copy of one and set a new value on
it.

advantage of working on older versions of git.

It has always been working even if not documented and there is no reason
to not accept it. However, change "True/False" to "true/false" to be
consistent with meson language.

It's not a python file, so it will never end up in the installed package
unless we mark it as package_data. This causes problems for people using
non-git checkouts.
