It is unmaintained, broken (frequently for long periods of time) and not really required for any meson functionality. Its purpose is to be used as a one-shot tool for creating a distro package recipe, and then deleted from your meson.build files. Due to its fragile dependency on coredata implementation details, we cannot assume it will reliably work, or continue to work, without someone who is actively willing to take responsibility for it. Even if that were to happen, this might be better off as an external script that parses introspection data. Closes #9764 Closes #9763pull/9806/head

# RPM module |
The RPM module can be used to create a sample rpm spec file for a |
Meson project. It autodetects installed files, dependencies and so |
on. Using it is very simple. At the very end of your Meson project |
(that is, the end of your top level `meson.build` file) add these two |
lines. |
```meson |
rpm = import('rpm') |
rpm.generate_spec_template() |
``` |
Run Meson once on your code and the template will be written in your |
build directory. Then remove the two lines above and manually edit the |
template to add missing information. After this it is ready for use. |

## Removal of the RPM module |
Due to lack of interest, lack of maintainership, and lack of a clear purpose, |
the RPM module has been removed. |
Users interested in one-shot tools to generate an RPM spec file template for |
distro packaging, are encouraged develop an external tool that reads the |
introspection data. |
