The name offset_t is easily confused with the standard off_t type and
*_t is POSIX reserved namespace if any POSIX header is included.

On recent glibc versions strings.h is not included by default, so the compiler

The typeof keyword is disabled by default when building with -std=c99
as it's a GNU extension.
ICC supports the __typeof__ keyword as well as typeof.
